March Madness
It’s not just about St. Patrick’s Day

Are you ready for some madness? March madness that is, when the 2007 Atlantic 10 Men’s Basketball Championship comes to Atlantic City Boardwalk Hall March 7-10. Whether you want to cheer on your alma mater or just catch a great game of hoops, don’t miss your chance to experience all the action up-close and personal.
But that’s only the beginning of all the fantastic events taking place in the Atlantic City area this March. Not only can you get your game on at Boardwalk Hall, you can experience a different type of b-ball at the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey. Stockton welcomes the famous Harlem Globetrotters for their “Nothing Like It Tour” on Wednesday, March 7 at 7 p.m. For tickets, call Stockton’s Performing Arts Center at 609-652-9000.
If your choice of entertainment tends to lean toward the artistic side, you definitely want to support the Atlantic City Ballet by attending its annual fundraiser on Friday, March 16 at 6:30 p.m., at the Flanders Hotel Banquet and Conference Center in Ocean City. The event will feature hors d’oeuvres and a selection of more than 150 fine wines from around the world, all accompanied by the sounds of the Arcadia Jazz Ensemble. To purchase tickets, call 609-602-1197.
For most of us, March means you are seeing green, whether you’re Irish or not. Returning to the Atlantic City Convention Center after an extremely successful first year is the Second Annual Beer Festival “Celebration of the Suds.” Get your beer goggles ready for March 10 and 11 when more than 50 breweries offer samples of 200-plus beers and ales in 80,000 square feet of exhibit space. The festival will also feature live entertainment provided by the Irish rock band Birnam Wood, along with motorcycle personality Suicide Jack, and DJ Neil.
Overseeing the event is Master of Ceremonies Gary Monterosso, beer author extraordinaire. On Saturday, the event is split into two sessions: 12 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and then from 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. On Sunday, the event is from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Last call is a half hour before the end of each session. For more information, contact Jon Henderson at 609-412-9056.
Of course, it wouldn’t be St. Patrick’s Day without the 22nd Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade held on Saturday, March 10. The parade begins at 1 p.m. at New Jersey Avenue on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City and ends at Albany Avenue. As always, it promises to be a festival of color, music and fun featuring marching bands, bagpipers and floats. Everyone knows the party continues after the parade at your favorite Atlantic City Irish-flavored home away from home.
The fun is just getting started in Atlantic City. For a complete list of entertainment, visit www.atlanticcitynj.com and click on the calendar of events.
